The Strart of a New Life

Escaping for a new beginning

Liz is again tired of being in Elsewhere, so she decided to leave, as a sneaker. Being a sneaker meant that you were thrown in the river in your one year anniversary and you accelerated the process for going back to earth as a new born baby. Liz decided that she will go in the first group in the morning. ! She was down the river! There is no going back, until she realizes she already had a life in Elsewhere, she had a job, a family, friends, dogs, and everything was basically like in earth. She was tied to many ropes and was very hard for her to get out, but she finally did. She was out of the ropes, but she had drowned. It was the end of Liz again until he heard a tiktok from a watch, she gained forces and swim a little bit, and it resulted to be Owen, saving her. They reached the surface and it was like if they reached the sky. Both were in love and continued their lives until it was time for Liz to go to earth as a new born baby. By his time, Owen was 2, so he didn’t knew what was happening. So, that was the story of a fifteen year old girl, who got hit by a car and died. Finally I think his after live had more up and downs hat he real life

Chosing the Correct Path

 Loving the Right One
Since thanks given is a time to share what you have with others and appreciate what you can give without receiving something in exchange, Betty decided to do a dinner inviting Lizzie’s friends and her loved ones. During the dinner, everyone shared, furthermore than food, everyone shared smiles, moments, words, and appreciate each other’s differences. Owen went to the dinner and spent a lot of time with Liz. After everything was cleaned up, Owen needed to go to the ODs to see her wife that was on Earth. He leaved wishing he could spend more time with Lizzie. When he arrived he saw Emily for three minutes and decided that it was time to let her go. The next day, the only thing he wanted was to be next to Lizzie, and let his past go. Owen decides to adopt a dog from where Lizzie worked and take it to his home. Time passed and Liz gets to know that Emily is arriving to Elsewhere, with that announce her world is falling apart. When Emily arrives Owen goes to her and they kiss while Liz was watching. Lizzie didn’t say a word ad leave. It was the course of time that started changing things between Owen and Liz. They did not spend so much time together; Owen didn’t have driving lessons to Liz and time started separating both. Before Emily stayed in Owens house, the dog, Jen that was there, needed to leave because Emily’s allergies. One day Liz went to visit Owen and fight through fight, they ended up kissing. Since Emily heard screams, she went to see. They were two teens in love. In Elsewhere, you age backwards, you never urn more year that the ones you were when you die, you only get younger. So Owen was seventeen and Liz sixteen. Owen shouted to Liz and everything ended up as a fight.

  “I was young and stupid.”
So, now we are young, and we can be stupid too. We must think deeper now in the decisions we make and what choices we make, since most of them would mark our lives. We are growing and making ourselves bigger as persons too. Many people think differently but we need to know the difference between good thing and bad things or good things that seem to be bad, bad  that seem to be good.

“This is all your fault!” Owens yells at Liz
There are situations in life where we think someone else is guilty of our actions and we blame it on them, but if people would not think with our heads hot, they would realize that things happen because we made them happen. We chose our lives to be the way they are, no one chose things for us when we grow. So we need to make decisions that we won’t regret of.

Giving without Recieving

Liz is getting worse every time she goes to the ODs. All the time she spent there helped her finally get to know who killed her. She also finds the necessity to communicate with her loved ones at earth so she searches until she comes up with the name of the only person that will help her without questioning. Curtis Jest, Lizzie’s favorite singer. She goes directly to Curtis and ask  him how could she make contact with the ones that are down there in  land. By this time, Lizzie bettered her relationship with his grandma Betty! She worked taking care of the new dogs at Elsewhere, at the Division of Domestic Animals. Within her job, a dog called Sadie comes into play. OMG! Liz finally makes a friend, a canine one, but it counts.  Liz found Sadie drinking water from the toilet the first day she went to work, and she decided it was time for her to get out of there. Going back to making contact with the living ones, Curtis explains Lizzie two different ways, but she only remembers one. One day Liz finally decides on what she was going to do and goes to the river where she was supposed to swim with her diving equipment and find a door which connected with the living ones. She made it; she told her brother that a cashmere sweeter was in the closet for his daddy’s birthday. Alvy, who was the one Liz was talking to, understood the wrong closet and got into trouble. By his time, Liz was already in a tramp and was got out of the water by the security guard, Owen.

“As a DDA counselor, you’ll mainly deal in dogs, of course, but within our division, we also deal with all house hold pets: cats, some pigs, the occasional snake, guinea pigs and so on.” (Zevin 133)

I founded strange when Liz spend so much time doing nothing, and then all of a sudden she has a job and she is practically having his happiness back. It is amazing how a human being can become another person basically when they are enjoying and doing what they like in their lives. Lizzie just needed a push of courage and be what her inside told her. Let her bright shine.

“I’m just a girl who forgot to look both ways before she crossed the street.” (Zevin 147)

This quote gives us a meaningful message, to every living human.  Liz, who was only fifteen years old, lost her life, because of one single mistake.  Pay attention and look both ways when you are crossing the streets, otherwise, the life taken, will be yours. Be careful also in cars, watch people who are crossing the street, you won’t want to be a murderer.

Rise and Shine

Living through Lenses
The first week of Liz in Elsewhere was worse than being in hell for her. She didn’t find herself and most of the time she was a mixture of feelings that will always ruined up her day by reminding her of Earth. She had her acclimation appointment, where she was introduced into a chair and saw a video that explained all the rules Elsewhere had followed by the norms she was expected to follow. For a teenager such as Liz, living with grandmother was a nightmare but she did it only because she had nowhere else to go. Who would understand her or comfort her if she needed, a grandmother is fine, but she needed friends and something to forget her life on Earth. She spends most of the time in the Observation deck, the ODs. These were binoculars with advanced technology lenses that focused the Earth. Anyone could see through them and watch your loved ones and what were they were doing in that precise moment. After having a bad conversation with Aldous, the man who was in charge of orientation for the new. He also introduced every person the ODs and showed you your funeral. After watching her funeral and being disappointed because Zooey wasn’t there, she decided to stay there since she was very curious about what was her best friend doing. Lizzie saw Zooey in the graduation party and nostalgic she just kept staring at her best friend’s dress, that if she would got hit by a taxi cab, she would help Zooey chose. Lizzie even more disappointed, decided it was time to leave the OD’s for another time.

“That’s certainly a negative way of looking at things.” (Zevin 58)
Realize, what are the things that stop you from doing something? It’s basically us! Our bad attitude, bad mood, bad thoughts; the thing is we always limit ourselves with obstacles we think are big, but in reality they don’t. Studies had determined that people in the majority imagine a worse thing than what is happens in reality. Every person in this planet has lost something for fear to lose. Being in that situation isn’t something that happens because it has to, it does because we chose. We chose to limit ourselves from being better. Let’s make a change and start seeing the good side of things, whether they aren’t as good as others they might have something good to learn from.
“Wish you were here.” (Zevin 100)
It requires a lot of maturity knowing how to appreciate something you have before you lose it. Many times, we don’t even realize we have something until we realize we don’t have it any more. We need to make conscience about this because it is no big deal when it’s about physical things or objects. But taking about it when you lose a person or something that you really miss, we can’t do much to get it back. We learn with the course of time to appreciate what we have, and also appreciate what we don’t.

Expect the Unexpected

The End

An unmade bed, shoes in every corner, clothes dropped all over the place, and fashion posters pasted on the closet from top to bottom. A teenager life is commonly a collection of broad ideas and a world full of mysteries waiting to be discovered. That is the standard profile of a fifteen year old girl who is about to turn sixteen. The only thing is that Liz doesn’t know that her life will make a drastic change before she even realizes the meaning of it. Elizabeth Hall, better known as Liz to her friends and Lizzie to her family was the eldest sister, followed by a seven year small brother named Alvy. Besides she was a great “mother” for Lucy, her dog, a pretty tall golden retriever.  They all had been together since Liz can remember and made a fantastic family. For Lizzie the end came quickly, at least that was what his family wanted to believe. They would never want her to suffer as much as other people in her same situation. Liz arrives, where? To Elsewhere. There she was, just opening her eyes. She seemed to be lost, like if she had slept more than two days. She starts taking to a girl that ended up as Thandi. They became friends with Liz and start figuring things out. Time passes, maybe a couple of hours and they both realize they are in a bout. Liz thinks she is a dreaming, and she is practically convinced about it until she tries to wake up and nothing works. After a while it seems that they arrived. Liz stays alone and has a conversation with the capitan of the boat. For Liz it’s everything like a dream, until she realizes everyone in the bout arriving to Elsewhere, is dead. When she finally arrives, she encounters with Betty, which resulted to be Liz grandmother. She never knew her since she was dead one year before her birth. Betty seems to miss Liz, but for Liz, it is the start of a life she does not want to live and a reality she does not accept.

“So… where do you think she is?” (Zevin 4)
Having six words in one sentence that has huge significance in a book and furthermore in life, is more than having six sentences of any type and wondering about their meaning. Zevin states this question with the purpose of opening the readers mind and give the reader a chance to imagine. Liz is in Elsewhere, and all her family is in her funeral in Earth and they have no clue of where is she. The qustion opens the book into esenarios thatare unepected and bring curiosity to the reader. The question can totally be answered with another one. What happens, when we die ?

Dying at the age of fifteen is a complete failure for Liz. Never got to fall in love with someone, or the graduation party with a dress and high heels. Meat the man which will stay by your side forever. Liz is so overwhelmed with stuff that she thinks that all she did was just pointless. Dying without experiencing things that the only way of living them would be having more timefor her was unacceptable. She is close to accept the truth of his dead and dig into what is happening down there.

For my closing thoughts, the photo below shows a lesson that will be presented to us each day of our lifes.
